An inspirational new cookbook has been launched by the churches of Stoke Prior and Wychbold in Worcestershire. Proceeds from sales of the book will support the rebuilding of St Elizabeth’s Church in Tunguli. The church was destroyed by a heavy storm in February 2016 and the community, together with Mission Morogoro, has been working to construct a new building. The foundations have been completed and work has started on the walls, but much remains to be done and it is hoped that this cookbook will raise enough money to allow the villagers to complete their church. The cookbook is titled Kushiriki ("sharing" in Swahili) and features 60 recipes of both savoury and sweet dishes, all intended to be shared and enjoyed together. The recipes fit into four categories: Al fresco dining; meals with family and friends; celebrations; coffee mornings and afternoon teas. The Bishop of Worcester, Rt Revd Dr John Inge, kindly contributed a foreword for the cookbook which in which he says, ”It gives me particular pleasure to commend this initiative because its three main ingredients are all sources of great enjoyment to me: Africa, sharing and of course food, glorious food”.
The launch was marked by a Tasting Evening where many of the recipes were sampled. The verdict was a unanimous ‘thumbs up’!
